Domain and Hosting Q's froma total web newbie.

    Right, here's the deal:
I've bought a .org domain from godaddy. I've signed up for free hosting with 110mb.com. I've uploaded a holding page to my 110mb account no problem (and even remembered to host the necessary image files online rather than on my HD!). That page is accessible fine on the web.

What I'm struggling with is getting my domain to point at my hosting. I've updated the domain on 110mb and I've also changed the details on godaddy to use custom nameservers and entered 110mb's details; NS1.110MB.COM & NS2.110MB.COM. It's been 48 hours now and entering my URL just gives a cannot be found page. Before I changed the nameservers thing it just showed the standard godaddy reserved page. Have I done something wrong? Am I missing something?

I've got no idea how to get my domain as an email address either but I'll come to that later maybe.

your webspace on 110mb may be lacking an index page.

do a whois search on your domain name it should display those nameservers.

Then using command promt type 'ping www.myaddress.com' . if it completes ok and the whois informaiton displays those nameservers, your domain is properly set up.

Thanks for that. I can't get ping to work here on my office PC strangely.

Anyway. I found a FAQ tutorial for getting godaddy domains to work with 11mb hosting, seems they don't like each other in the 'normal' sense. It's all working now though which is great news.

For the emails I've found out that google apps lets you have 100 email addresses for your domain so I've set that up and got it forwarding to my usual gmail account.

      Brilliant.
