JAP Megadrive - Can it play US or UK games?

Hello everyone I have a really nice Japanese Megadrive, which I love. However I would like to play some Genesis (US) or UK Megadrive games on it. Is this possible? If not - can you get a convertor to do this - which kind of convertor would I need. I think really I am interested more in playing US games than UK games so that would be all I need.

I have another question - when I was young I used to really love NHL 93 on UK megadrive (which I no longer have). I never played any of the other versions - so I'd like to ask which is the best? Logically the later installments should be, but things don't always work out like that.

You should be able to play most UK/ US games without a converter. There is a plastic piece inside the cart slot that you can remove to save using a bridge adaptor. It's the piece that moves when you turn the power switch and lock the cart in place. Very easy to remove and well worth it.

Region locked games won't work without a dip switch converter or modding the console. There aren't that many of them but quite alot of Konami games are regoin locked.

I think NHL 93 is the best of the bunch in terms of pure gameplay. Later efforts added more controls that didn't necessarily improve things. NHL96 is the best of the later games afair.

Mostly what Moonwhistle has said;

Cheap converter i.e. any converter = play good amount/most games
Mid-range advanced converter = play large majority of games
High-end advanced converter = play 99% of games

I actually mod consoles, which results in play 100% of games

In fact I probably have NHL 93. If you wanted your console modding, I could dig it out and you can have it

Chaotic Jelly - I don't think I will mod my Megadrive at the moment but I am thinking of getting a bios for my Neo Geo AES at the moment. I just looked at your site and I see you install version 3.0. I like the idea of the LED too! Does the RGB mod improve picture on systems with a lower serial number? - mine is 054309. It has a very good picture at the moment. Also will the sound still come out through the AV port(if i have the RGB mod) - I use a mono TV for my Neo Geo at the moment - so I use a mono RGB lead.
