PS3, External Hard Disk and PlayTV...

Quick question,
Can I use my external hard disk with my PlayTV adaptor on the PS3, as my 60gb internal one is getting full?
Failing that if I upgrade the internal HDD can I use this with the PlayTV, in other words will the PlayTV box pick it up as if it were a standard Hard Disk? (I know the HDD has to be FAT32 formatted)

A quick Google suggests that you can't record directly to the external drive, but you can copy or move files over. I'm pretty sure this is covered in the first play thread - that's only 2 or 3 pages long, so it shouldn't take you too long to check.
