    Help! H-ISP or S-PVA ???

I was going to buy a TN screen - but have decided that spending a lot more would make me happier

Anyway, here are the two screens I can't decide between.

    24" Dell 2408WFP Ultrasharp ( this is S-PVA )

    or

    HP LP2475W
    ( this is H-IPS )

Both have received good reviews. The Dell is said to have poor input lag; which may have been fixed with a revision?

The HP doesn't appear to have any major issues.

Any advice appreciated - because I really can't decide.

As far as i know both IPS and PVA do have input lags. If you jump over to www.hardforum.com, search for "LP2475W", one member over there testd the screen for input lag, compared with a crt screen. If you want to use a screen for photo editing i would suggest to go with the IPS screen, besides i think the resale value is higher than other screen technologies.

I had the HP LP2475W, the wide-gamut didn't really put me off but the text rendering was an issue. So I returned the monitor under the distance selling regulations.

If you want more info on the HP there is a good thread here :-

My monitor choices are now between the 24" Hazro and the new HP LP2475w. So I'm hunting the web for first hand experience on this new HP. So far this thread has a lot of good info: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1326971&page=9 This german forum (translated to english)...

Similarly there is a DELL thread here:-

See: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-024-DE Now I have something to use my 7.5% discount code on (from the survey) :D Edit: Just ordered.. with discount: £445.55 (inc VAT and next day delivery)

Thread revival, it completely slipped under my radar...BTW, I moved to the 2408WFP from a Samsung 215TW, both with S-PVA matrix.

The input lag on the Dell will never be corrected with new hardware revisions as Dell would need to remove or change the internal scaler. Removing the scaler will lower the quality of filled/stretched pictures and upgrading the scaler would make the price higher.

It is true that the Dell has a relatively high input lag but, in fact, it is slighlty faster than my previous monitor and since I had no issues with the 215TW, I don't have any issues with the Dell either.

The hardware revisions on the Dell monitor were done to remove first a predonimance of red on the whole matrix and the to correct an imbalanced backlighting. Everything else is the same.

Now, if you use the monitor for image editing, I'd reccomend the HP. The IPS matrix has a wider color gamut than PVA matrixes and it can be fine-tuned with greater accurancy...if you need. However, you'll need professional tools to decide which is the best calibrated between a S-PVA and IPS matrix, or stare at monitors for hours.

That said, for me the Dell has two big advantages: VGA input (Dreamcast forever) and HDCP on both DVIs, an info I couldn't confirm for the HP. Also, Dell offers more controls over non-native resolutions (1:1, strech, fill), something that made me chose the 2408WFP over the Samsung 245T, an other S-PVA 24" monitor.

Not to mention, I prefer Dell costumer service above HP's or Samsung's.
