Transfering files from PC to PS3 how??

Used to use an xbox with xbmc.

Whats the easiest way to load stuff onto the ps3 harddrive?

Have seen that you can stream stuff but want to load stuff directly on, like i used to on xbmc via ftp.

    Any suggestions?

It really depends what type of files you are looking to move?

The way I did it was using the Search For Media Server option listed under Photo/Music/Video in the XMB. For me it connected to my PC instantly but I've read about other people having to configure it to make it work.

Not sure why it works straight away from some but not others though.

On my PC side I connected it using WMP and the PS3 showed up in the device list so I just had to allow it access to my PC. I've now got my PC at the top of the Photo/Music/Video sections whenever I start the PS3.

Just wanting to transfer video files(divx etc), won't have to have the pc on all the time, and will save storage space.

whatever your LAN speed is. I just setup an apache webserver on a spare PC with a load of files on , and set the ps3's web browser home page to the webserver, then press X on a movie file and it'll stream over http, or you can choose to save target as, and download it locally to your videos xmb section.

You could use IIS on windows too

Just stick the files on a USB memory stick.

Format and set up expanded storage on a PlayStation 3 This wikiHow teaches you how to format an external USB hard drive to the FAT32 file system using either a Windows or Mac computer, and then how to attach and add the external hard drive...

The bigger issue is of the wide variety of video file formats that the PS3 doesn't like.

I've just got around to doing this myself but seem to have an issue with files that Windows Media Player doesn't like, but play fine on the PS3.

I have some MP4 files which have not shown up in my WMP playlist, so they don't appear on the PS3. Is there any way of bypassing WMP and giving the PS3 direct access to a particular folder? Or how do I force WMP to rebuild it's playlist?

You can use TVersity for that I think you'll find. WMP isn't going to include formats that it doesn't support.

You can do registry hacks to get wmp to do mp4, but tversity seems like the way to go. I always had problems with older versions of it screwing up my machine, but latest version seems to work well.

If you can stream videos already then hitting triangle on the video gives you a copy option which will copy it to your PS3's drive. I use mediaconnect on a Mac but PC software must be the same I imagine.

That would be fine except it doesn't even show up in the list, as it's using WMPs library. I'll go with TVersity if I absolutely have to.. would like to avoid installing extra software if I can though.

In the days of XBMC we didn't need to use WMPs sharing function, windows could share the folders directly. Can't we do that anymore?

                            Nope. Pain in the arse.

If it makes you feel any better about Tversity, it's pretty low level in idle (once it has built the library). And if your stuff is in the wrong format, it will recode it on the fly to work on your PS3.
