    US PS2 question

Hi all. I have a US PS2, which I'm running through an RGB cable into a UK-bought Panasonic Viera HD TV. I am having no troubles at all with games, which display in sharp clarity, but for some reason, when I try to play a DVD through it, the picture displays in bright green. It's not a massive issue, as we have a multi-region DVD player, and I only discovered the problem while testing another DVD which wasn't working in said player. I was just hoping someone could explain why the issue occurs with films, but not games?

    Thanks!

You need one of those RGB cables with a small switch on it. That switch will let you switch between RGB mode (for games) and composite mode (for movies). In RGB mode you will see the green (macrovision?) screen.
Another option is to buy a s-video cable or a PS2 component cable which won't have these issues as far as I know (not 100% sure though).

This is not only the case with US PS2's, also European consoles have this.

The green screen (which many people mistake as being copy protection or similar) is caused by laziness on Sony's part - in RGB mode, DVD's bizzarely output in Component, causing green screen.

The above solution works, it basically forces composite. Alternatively, the DVD Region X discs correctly force RGB, as do most modchips.

or you will need to modify it to play dvds in rgb i had this done on my large model ps2 and it removes the green screen but then the ps2 doesn't output component signal

but now i have a slimline ps2 for playing games in 480p

I'm not sure there's much point in me doing anything to fix it, since I already have a perfectly working multiregion DVD player, but it did strike me as strange, so I'm glad I've got an answer. Thanks all!

I thought they made it output YPbPr (component) so that you couldn't get good-quality copies onto VHS through RGB scart? God knows why anyone would want to do such a thing, mind!
