    Sony KDL40W4500

    Hey everyone.

A while ago I was planning to get a new TV, and I was going to go for a Panasonic TX32LXD700. Due to lack of control the TV had in the settings, I decided to postpone buying a new TV and wait until later.

Now I have come across the Sony KDL40W4500 which is apparently the successor to KDL40W4000. However I can't find any reviews for the KDL40W4500 (i've been hoping HDTVtest would do one).

Does anyone here own a KDL40W4500? Are you happy with the TV? Are there any major let downs? Can the 100Hz be turned off if the user wants? Anything else I should know?

    Thank you.

Being the resident AV jock, I was tasked to set one up for my buddy.

    Curious feature:

It has the ability to stream MP3/Pictures off your PC, but is much slower at it than the 360 or PS3.

    Observations:

Same great picture of the W4000, and I would say was the best mid range LCD on the market currently.

Turn all image enhancement off and use 4000 settings. Turn off motion enhancer for games (Yes, you can do this, settings are Standard, Off, High. Game mode turns if off by default)

For games/HD it's an amazing set.

For SD it's still behind 3 year old Pioneers.

i luuuuuuuuurve the fact the sony badge has a white LED behind it! Mint!

Be very careful to pricematch on this TV, there are wildly different prices in the UK!

All in all, I was very impressed and green with envy of my buddy.

EDIT: On paper the contrast is 50000 :1 compared to the 33000:1 of the W4000.

Both TV's have such amazing blacks (And therefore colours) that I couldn't really tell an improvement. It just looked great!

      Thanks for the info capcom_suicide.

Sounds great, I can't wait to get it along with a PS3 for Blu-ray

Do you know if the 100Hz can be turned off?

      Thanks.

I have one as my secondary set. It rocks. Only difference over the 4000 is 100hz. The 100hz is set via the Motionflow enhancer if I recall, which can be turned off. You can also turn off the annoying white LED behind the Sony badge too.

Can be picked up for £999 in Sony Centres with a 5-year guarantee. They have a deal to get an 80GB PS3 and 007 QoS for £1099.

          Hey J0e Musashi,

Thanks for letting me know. Does that deal with the PS3 come with the 5 year guarantee like yours? Also is it in all Sony Stores?

At the moment I was thinking of getting it from John Lewis for £1099 with 5 years free guarantee.

Yer bra. For £1 short of £1100, you get the TV, the PS3, and the 007 game by redemption, and a 5-year guarantee. As far as I'm aware it's a Sony Centre promotion so it should be across every store in the land. I got mine from the Wood Green store in North London around 3 weeks back. Much to my amusement the salesman looked remarkably like Simon Pegg.

They do a similar deal with the 4000 too, which is £100 cheaper, so you may wanna go for that if you're just gonna turn off the 100hz anyway.

              Awesome deal

Well I haven't experienced the differences of 100Hz and I would like to have the option. Also I prefer the design of the KDL40W4500.

By the way, what's the normal guarantee with the PS3 that comes with it?

Well that was gonna be my next question... W4000 or W4500? As I'm probably heading along those lines myself shortly.

Thanks for the tip! I'lll have a lok at the PS3 and 4000 deal, not listed on their website though, do you just have to turn up to the store?

I will be getting this quite soon now. I was reading some more opinions at AV Forums and I read that some people suffered from clouding/backlight bleeding on their models.

I was wondering, does Sony Centre and/or John Lewis allow the TV to be replaced if these problems are present?

Also, when I purchase the TV, what is the best method for testing these possible problems, to see if the TV suffers from them?

                      Thank you.

Had this tv for a week now and very impressed with the picture quality.

Theres maybe 2 things which i'm not too keen on but you can get around it:

                        a) the sound is a bit tinny, not enough bass but if you run it through a 5.1 setup its ok.
                        b) the built in digital channels take about 3 seconds to change channels. dunno if its like that on other tellys? But if you run it through freeview or sky i suppose its fine.

But overall its a fine piece of kit.

Picking my one up next week.

One thing though, after hanging around avforums they mention that sd stuff is great as long as you dont use the standard picture settings..

Bladerunner did you use the plain vanilla settings??

Ive had this since lanch back in september the 52" model and i love it. However i hate hate hate the motionflow option, i dunno if i have super eyes as none of my famliy can see it but when motionflow is set to on i can see what is like speed up in the motion, everything looks like its in fastforward. Luckly theres the game mode that totally turns off motionflow.

                              Hey,

I don't actually have the TV yet, but hopefully I will have it in a couple of weeks.

I was asking someone in Sony Centre and John Lewis about their policy for exchange if the TV suffered from any major-ish backlight bleeding and the Sony guy came out with 'if it's a manufacturers fault' they would exchange it, and the guy in John Lewis said they would not exchange it as its something they could all suffer from.

Does anyone know who is better for straight forward exchanges if the TV had blacklight bleeding problems?

                              Thanks.
