Laptop insurance claim

I recently dropped my laptop and damaged the screen, there is a line of blue pixels on it and the bottom right corner has gone kind of orange.

I want to claim on my home insurance for it as quite frankly I need a new laptop and having never done this I was wondering if anyone else has been through this process?

Do you have to have it looked at by the insurance company/company that sold it to me (ebuyer) or does it go through somewhat painlessly and they just sort out a replacement/payment?

It varies from insurance company, some might want you to get an estimate, some might just give you the money. However I guess many laptop are 'dropped' (especially when they get a few years old!) so they might want to take a look.

It's a couple of years old and the screen problems are pretty minimal but are noticable and annoying.
