Dilemah: Sony KDL40W4500 or Some 32incher

KDL-40W4500 and a ps3 for blue ray. Or a nice 32inch and sounds system.

    I have a 360 and don't really want a ps3 bar blueray. little big planet and gt5.

Any comments (or recommendations for a 32) appreciated!

What's the cost of the Sony and what would your budget be for a 32"?

the sony 32w4000 would be a model to look at if you do go for a 32inch tv

Loving the 32 inch Sony but am worried that the w4500 model can't be far off.

?1250 total budget. In which case I'm leaning towards the 40inch Sony. But worried it will be too big, I'll spend all the cash on it and then be disappointed by blue ray and the ps3.

How big is the room? I'm 6' from my 42" screen.

brando go to a sony shop and see the size of the 40inch and see whether it will fit in your room as for your budget you will be best to look at the 40w4000 or 4500 model

Hmm, been to Comet and scoped them out. If the 32W4500 was out I think I probably would have bought it. £500 for the 32W4000 seems like good value from Amazon. But..... I still think a 40 would look good. It will definitely fit the lounge is pretty massive, it's more a point of the TV taking over the room than it being too big, if that makes any sense?

Going to steal back my 32inch Toshiba from my rents for a week and order from there.

Cheers all, will keep you posted. Any more thoughts welcome to!

                  Sod it...............

Ordered the 40w4500 , may hold on the ps3 as I can panic buy one with little big planet and batman from pc world if I have to.

Sound can wait for the new year.

word of advice, now that you've ordered, stay away from reviews and avoid any advertisements. You'll only probably catch a review that makes you uneasy or spot a reduction somewhere.

                    I spent far too long deliberating over my new TV ;_;

How much was it btw Brando? I'm still debating 4000 or 4500 (probably the former as I'd have 100Hz mode off for gaming anyways).

                        hi Charles

apologies for going slightly off topic here...but how do you find your 42" screen from that distance? do you use it solely as a 'games screen' or also as your all-round every day one too? as i'm looking at getting the W4500 but am undecided whether to go for the 40" or the 46" one...if there was a 42" it'd be perfect i reckon.
i've read various 'guides' to viewing distance/screen size, but guess i'm now more after actual users opinions too. i'll use the screen mainly for films, broadcast sports (freeview- football, tennis, snooker etc etc...) gaming and a little general freeview here and there. so i guess my biggest concerns are with freeview from a distance of around 9' to 10' but also just 'in general'. could you see yourself going for a 46" next time from that distance, having now lived with it? or do you already feel you're 'boarderline'

                        thanks in advance!
                        regards

Yo Mayhem, I got it for £780 delivered from Amazon's warehouse. It's been out of the box but that really doesn't bother me. They had it at £850 new and £899 with amazon.

The money saved will go towards the ps3 or sound .

Edit: Forgot to say they had one at £650 but it had marks on the tv, I was sorely tempted as kids will be playing near it anyway but it went while I deliberated.

                            Sound advice*

I'd also suggest avoiding reading threads on places like AV Forums as the odd person will be really nitpicking and pick up on something really minor you would never notice under normal viewing conditions. However, once you are aware of the issue it'll drive you to distraction. Even if you can't see the problem you'll think you can & spend more time pacing around the room 'analysing' things than just enjoying the tv for what it is

From what I've read you've probably bought one of the best (if not the best) pound for pound 40 inchers in any case. Hope you enjoy it!

*unless you bought from somewhere like Amazon.....in which case watch the price! They reduced the price of my tv by approx. £50 3 weeks after delivery. A polite e-mail & they refunded the difference without any quibbles.

Yeah Amazon are weirdly decent about price reductions. They quite often give you refunds for products which quickly go down in price, even if you didn't know about the reductions
