Can anyone recommend a surround sound setup please?

I?m looking for an amp/receiver and speakers. I?m not looking to spend stupid amounts of cash but I don?t want anything to cheap.

    Thanks in advance

Got a rough idea of budget? Also, what will you be connecting to it?

Cool - for that sort of money I'd start by having a look at the following:

        Amp

        Sony DG820 - £220 - £250ish
        Yamaha DSPAX763 - £300ish
        Denon 1909 - £320 - £350ish
        Onkyo 606 - £350

        Speakers

        Jamo A102HCS5 - £200ish
Mordaunt Short Carnival - £220 - Peter Tyson also throw in speaker cable with this package to get you started.

The Yamaha, Denon & Onkyo will all upconvert sources to HDMI, so you only need 1 connection to your TV (although your Sky+ box will obviously have to go straight to the TV as well) - the Denon & Onkyo have more HDMI inputs than the Yamaha, so it depends on how many you need , or might need in the future.

I've been looking at getting the Onkyo 606, but i'm not sure what speekers to get with it. I was thinking of the Kef KHT2005.2 but i've heard that they don't handle music very well. Any good recomendations?
My budget with the AV is £800...

I just bought the Onkyo 606 2 weeks ago and it's an amazing amp ! I bought it together with the Canton movie 150 QX speakers and the sound is incredible , if you have neighbourgs it's much more then you'll actually ever gonna need.
For me important was that the Onkyo has 4 HDMI ports to connect my PS3, 360 and digital TV.
And after some searching on the internet the price for the onky and the canton speakers wasn't to bad, I had it all for about 800 euro.

Sound recommendations are tricky, it's so subjective. I have some mid-range (Silver Series) Monitor Audio speakers, an MJ Acoustics Pro 50 sub, and an Onkyo 876. That's really me recommending my good experience with those brands, as this setup was a bit pricey.
