    1080i/50hz on a jpn ps3?

does anyone know if this would work?

    In what usage?

The answer is almost certainly no. When you try to play 50hz-based extra features from BD movies, they simply return you to the main disc menu.

But playing them back through the main XMB interface will probably work, but they will be converted to 60hz.

My camcorder is 1080i50 and sticking the AVCHD memory stick into my NTSC PS3 basically doesn't work. It just bombs out. It is beyond annoying.

Annoyingly, Sony still thinks that Europe wants 50Hz in the HD era. A clue: we don't.

I'm pretty sure Wipeout PSN download runs 1080i@50Hz on my Asian PS3. Probably depends on the application.

PS3 retail software doesn't run in 50hz does it?
I just bought a copy of Dead Space for the PS3 at GAME to play on my Japanese machine, tell me I don't have to return it...

Does it matter if you're running in HD? I thought that HD negated the worry about 50 / 60Hz issues?

Lyris: My UK Dead Space ran fine on my Jap PS3 although, again, I'm running in HD so was unaware that there'd be an issue.

PAL PS3 games only run 50Hz in SD/ED.

Games run at 60Hz in HD resolutions. I think PAL games (or at least most) run at 50Hz in SD resolutions, but since I lack a UK machine I've no idea.

@papercut - The WipEout HD I purchased on the EUR PS Store runs in 60Hz in both 720p and 1080i on my US machine.

I was talking about the PS1 downloads, Wipeout 1 not HD

On mine PAL stuff runs at the correct speed with borders as if its 50Hz, and NTSC stuff runs at 60Hz speed without borders. Maybe they are doing some evil frame rate conversion in software, but I haven't noticed anything weird going on.

I remember reading that people had trouble running PAL PS1 downloads on NTSC machines too, and the problem seemed to be no 50Hz in HD on their display.

My set doesn't tell me the frame rate annoyingly, so I can't be 100% certain.

Glad to hear the HD output is unmolested, thanks!

PAL PS3's have this option in the menu -

Wondered whether or not it was available on the NTSC models but could never get a confirmation. Guess not.

It's not, that's interesting. Considering that the NTSC models would actually be the ones that would benefit from being able to convert 50 to 60!

NTSC models already do convert 50 to 60, and they always have. Its playing 50 at 50 which seems to be the problem.
