PS3 Memory Card adaptor -> PC

I have the memory card adaptor for the PS3 to use PS1/2 memory cards. It is a USB device. Can I somehow retrieve my saves onto a PC with this? I basically wanna grab a Silent Hill 1 save for use on emulator.

You can copy game saves to normal memory cards via the PS3 - not sure if you can then do anything useful with them. PS2 saves at least are encrypted I think.

Yeah I know - I wanted to get them from Memory Card to PC! So then I can continue my Silent Hill save on my laptop. But it seems I've found the answer anyway.

Only works for PS1 saves though, because of MagicGate protection on the PS2 saves.

Ah, I thought you were talking about the PS1/PS2 memory card adaptor which is USB. In theory someone could write a tool to rip saves straight from that, and skip the PS3 altogether.

As far as I know, there aren't any drivers to use the PS3 adaptor on a PC.

There are ways to get saves from a PS2 to a computer using an Action Replay or something like this. If you have a chipped PS2 you can do it by downloading the free file manager uLaunchELF and burning it to a CD, and then you can copy the save from the Memory Card to any USB storage device. I did that when I was converting PS1 saves to work on my PSP and it worked perfectly.

Wait wait guys, that's exactly what I linked to, a driver to use it on PC, and rip the saves for use on emulator

Ah yes Good stuff, I'll give that a go myself.

I'm surprised no one has sussed/cracked Magic Gate yet, given the PS2 was blown wide open years ago.

Having said that you can ftp them from a cracked PS2 with an 8MB card inserted, presumably after the card has been unlocked by the PS2 itself.

surely with a ps2 memcard adaptor you could transfer it to the ps3 and then back to a usb memory stick too? theres a program called psvextractor (psv is the ps3 ps2 save file format) which lets you get the original ps2 file out of a psv.

So you did. My way works with PS2 saves, though, and gets around MagicGate by getting the PS2 to decrypt it

                    *Bump*

Any idea if this method works the other way round, to write saves to a PS1 memory card?

Ive downloaded the full ROM set of the Sony Pocketstation games/saves that im hoping to copy onto the Pocketstation and try out.

dunno if this helps, but I traded my 60gb BC Ps3 in recently, but before doing so

                      - I copied my PS2 saves onto a USB stick on the PS3
                      - copied them onto the PC
                      - bought a slim PS2 and memory card
                      - copied the PS2 saves from the PC to the PS2 memory card

So - perhaps all you need is a PS3 to act as the link (instead of finding drivers for the PC, use the PS3 as the 'drivers')

                      ???

Of course, may only work for PS2 not PS1, but I'd doubt that.
