I'm looking around to find a decent video scaler to have a good image quality from older and not so older consoles (from NES to Wii, both PAL and NTSC) on my 1920x1200, 24" monitor.
Currently I'm happily using a PS3 on it at 1080p with HDMI as the monitor has various mapping options including a 1:1 mapping.
However, on standard video inputs the monitor isn't able to discern between 4:3 and 16:9 signals, so with the Wii and PS2 I'm struck in manually set the firmware to fill the screen with a slight image deformation...and a lot of jaggies. Not to mention that a 1:1-mapped NES is a bit small on a 1920x1200 monitor...
So I'm looking for a good video processor that will take component, composite, s-video and maybe VGA and output it at 1080p without or with minimal lag.
So far I've looked at the DVDO Edge and the Atlona AT-LINE PRO2 and each has its pros and cons...the DVDO Edge sounds amazing apparently being a VP50 without custom outputs and less inputs, but lacks VGA; the Atlona is cheaper, smaller, apparently does its work as well as the Edge and has VGA, but has no multiple inputs of the same kind.
Uber processors like the VP30 and the VP50 from DVDO are out of budget.
Anyone got any reccomendation on this kind of equipment? I don't want to buy a 500+ euro piece of hardware and having any regrets (custom resolutions aren't needed...as long it outputs 1080p I'm fine).
