Why can't you chat on the PS3 while you're playing a game? My mate finally got a machine we bought headsets and wanted to discuss Fallout 3 while we were playing it (something we do while playing 360 games) but you can't do it. Does anyone know if there's a patch coming out as it seems really archaic.

I think that on the PS3 the "purpose" of chatting is for online multiplayer.
I doubt if the patch will ever come out - I think that on the PS3 chat is implemented by the game developer. I don't think it's a core part of gameos - as it would need to be for what you require - but instead Sony supply development libraries for developers to integrate into their own games.

i made a post about this late last year and even with games having the "ability" to chat to each other it was very hit and miss.
If you want to chat reliably and easily just use the 360.

That's a little at a tangent to Strider's question, though, isn't it?
AIUI he's not getting drop-outs when chatting in Fallout 3, it's that you can't chat at all in Fallout 3.
Isn't the hit & miss thing the fault of the PS3's support for bluetooth headsets? I think I read that the special PS3-only bluetooth headset is supposed to be better.

I doubt PS3 will ever support this. I have had friends who play 360 games competetively moaning about how easy it is to cheat now that you can carry on talking to team mates even though you've been killed (party chat) so I don't think we can say that it's all roses in the 360 camp.
Also yes, the new socom official headset is awesome.
