Using Mic with Rockband guitar (Xbox 360)

Ok, tried playing Rock Band 2 with a mate online last night. Obviously we wanted to chat though, so i stuck the mic in a controller and began chatting with that. Problem is, the game then thought i wanted to use the microphone to sing with, rather than the guitar. To use the guitar i needed to sign out on the controller, and sign in to my profile with the guitar. But there is no port that i can find on the Rock Band guitar to let me attach the bloody mic! I ended up digging out an old Guitar Hero 2 guitar which does have the socket for the mic. Bloody annoying as you would think the newer peripheral would at least have the same features.

Am i missing something obvious here?! Id much rather use the Rock Band guitar if possible.

I know its no comfort Marmite but thought you may like to know the Guitar Hero 3 Guitar has the port to plugin your headset, plus its a really nice guitar to use for both RB & GH

The port for the mic on the rock band guitar is on the top towards the back - run your finger along the seam on the guitar to find it.

Your guitar should have come with an adaptor so you can plug the 360 mic in. If you have an old xbox headset you can also use that, by removing the jack from the dongle that goes into the pad, and pluging that straight into the guitar.

Brilliant, thanks for the help. I did notice the small hole on the guitar, but it didnt fit with my old mic. I didnt realise you could release the dongle bit though, so will try that tonight (im assuming you can re-attach it afterwards?)

        Cheers

That only works with the original xbox headset - 360 ones need the adaptor. But yes, if you have an original headset it can be reattached.

The 360 headsets now have a standard 3.5m plug and the volume/mute control is on the chord, so if you have one of these lying about you don't need the adapter.

Did you get the band in a box? The adaptors came in sealed bags inside the box containing the USB hub iirc - I think I got 3 with mine. They're really shoddy - just a bit of lead with a piece of plastic to keep the end of the mic lead attached. Just about do the job though.
