Brightness/contrast of Bandai SwanCrystal screen

Assuming my SwanCrystal isn't faulty, is there a way to change the brightness/contrast of the screen? I've never used a Bandai WonderSwan Mono or Colour before (or another SwanCrystal for that matter) so I can't compare, but I can hardly see what's on the screen.

Nope, you need a reasonable amount of light to play a swannie.

You can mod them and put a backlight in them.
