XCM Adapter [360 Pad on PS3]

As much as I love using the DS3 when it comes down to it seems like the 360 controller was designed and built specifically for shooters so I'm thinking of getting a XCM Cross battle Adapter.

Has anybody here used one or perhaps something else that does the same job? Any good?

If there is an alternative without the rapid fire stuff I don't mind as it's really not something I'd ever use. This one looks like it was made in China or Taiwan for about 4p so if there's something out there that looks a bit more reliable I'd like to know about it.

    Cheers!

OK...I got impatient and ordered one!

I went for the slow postage from New York as it wasn't cheap and I didn't really want to pay any more than the $53.99 (Not cheap) it was costing me in total with this postage.

I suppose it'll take a couple of weeks to arrive. I'm still interested in hearing about alternatives as I'm really not confident about how well built this gubbins is.

I'll leave some feedback here when it turns up if people are interested? Out of interest, would anybody else consider using one if it worked well?

    EDIT:

I think I would, cause I much prefer the 360 pad full stop, though I would have to buy a wired 360 pad, and I already have 4 wireless ones now, that's the only thing that's putting me off, too used to wirelessness! However, 54 bucks is above my price point, I bought a Hori Stick for 38 dollars before Christmas for my 360, so 54 dollars for that and then a wired 360 pad.

It's really not cheap at the moment and I am taking a risk as they seem to be new so there isn't a lot of feedback out there right now. If it works well it'll definately get used by me though.

I'll need to get a wired controller now. Anybody know of anywhere doing them cheap at the moment? Can you get wired controllers in black as I think I've only ever seen the white ones?

I think the official ones only came in white, the NY Giants branded one in the videos is probably a Madcatz one.

Think xcm may do a casing John, check on The Game Train.

Thanks Nick, not seen that site before. They do a black one but it's wireless and about ?20 and I've spent enough on this for the moment I think.

I know you're a bit of a pro modder Nick so out of interest...how difficult? How expensive? Could you handle the challenge?

                It's the 360 sticks & triggers combined with the DS3 d-pad & rumble.

John, when you get it, can you take the casing off and post a few screenshots. Shouldn't be hard to make one of these for a couple of quid

Happy to but it really depends on what the quality of it is like. If it looks like it's gonna crap out if it gets taken apart then I'm not going to risk it at that price.

It depends how confident I feel with it and also if the plastic casing is sealed or screwed together.

                    EDIT:
I'm guessing that somebody has already tried using the 360 Controller for Windows connected to their PS3?

Copied from the KZ2 thread to keep things On Topic:

Not used a DS3 for a FPS. I really like the pad, but the triggers are a bad shape. I got some of those slip-on plastic triggers to go over them, it made the world of difference! The analogues are light, which is great in some games, but probably not as good as the 360 when you want a bit more resistance for improved accuracy. The sticks themselves should also be concaved (like the triggers are for me now )

On the plus side, the face buttons on the PS3 pad are far superior to the 360s. I prefer the lightweight feel. I have both a SA and DS3, and I stick with the SA; I don't like rumble, a waste of time imo and I always turn it off anyway. I've got an old MS ForceFeedback Joystick, something like £120 from around 1996, and that's amazing. Proper force feedback is needed, not a bit of bull**** rumbling in a pad!

I also once read an article that playing with a rumble pad for an hour is like 10 minutes on a pneumatic drill. Or something like that. In 20 years time you'll all have white knuckle and I'll be just fine

You'll find most devs using R1 as the primary trigger. They know how pap those L2/R2 triggers are.... I like to think anyway.

It's really not as bad with FPSs as some people would have you believe but the sticks are definately better for that type of game on the 360 pad.

They only triggers I've ever liked on a pad are the Gamecube triggers, I really don't like them on the PS3 or the 360 and would much rather avoid them altogether.

I'm not really a fan of rumble either. I can honestly say that the only games I've felt were improved with rumble were the MGS and Gran Turismo franchises because I felt that feedback added something to the games.

I was hoping that force feedback would be used this generation as I can't imagine it's that expensive now but maybe it's the size that would get in the way?

So what I really want from a controller is the DS3 body & face buttons, the Saturn d-pad, the 360 sticks and the Gamecube triggers...with force feedback that practically moves the controller around the room when I'm fighting against the g force when while taking a corner!

R1 mate. Less travel time than triggers

Given the mechanics, I'm not sure it would be economically viable. Plus it would be tough to judge, given you'd only be fighting against a player's thumb. It worked great on the joysticks, I've got the Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro:

It could put up a good amount of resistance, and some nice quick push and pulls.
