NTSC Wii w/ component cable - screen flicker issue

    Hi guys,

I have an NTSC Wii which had an issue playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl (dusty lens or whatever it was). I got my system sent to the States to get it fixed. After it came back, I noticed a strange screen flicker (I tried recording it on video to post online...but you can really only see the issue in person). Now, this flicker doesn't happen all the time - I'm trying to figure out if it's maybe my component cable or more likely a problem with the system itself (or even my TV!).

Issue occurs when I have my system set to 480p (my TV is a 720p Samsung LE23R7). The only place I can always replicate the issue to show someone is when I go to the Wii settings screen, hit the TV resolution button, and then you see the two buttons for 480p or 480i. When I hover the pointer between the two, the screen flickers a heck of a lot. This flicker also happens quite a bit when I have connecting online with Mario Kart Wii (when the globe is spinning) or when I place a GameCube game in the Wii and I pick the GC channel (when the channel blows up on screen and gives you an option the start the game).

I'm pretty sure it isn't the TV, because this never used to happen before (until Nintendo after fixed my system). Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? I don't want to buy another component cable to see if it works and then find out the problem is there (all Wii owners I know don't use component cables).

    Many thanks.

I had a similar issue. It was the Wii power supply. Replaced it and the problem went away.

Hmmm...I can borrow a friend's power supply and try, thanks. However, I'm not so sure this is the issue...why would it only happen when it's set to 480p?

        could be the cable

get yourself an official lead if your not already using one.

My friend had a faulty hdmi lead that produced strange flickering artifacts and colours on the screen.
