    Modded Xbox advice please

I've just purchased an Xbox with an Xecutor2 chip installed. I'd like to get XBMC on there, and also be able to boot into the retail MS Dashboard.

At the moment it has UnleashX installed, from there I can boot into the retail dashboard. However, if I disable the modchip the Xbox won't boot into the retail dashboard, it just displays an Error 13 message.

I don't know the version of the Xecutor, or how to check that out.

Can anyone please tell me the easiest way to get to where I want to be:

    Mod On: Boot to XBMC
Mod Off: Boot to MS Official Dash

Any help will be much appreciated. Also, I own a Mac rather than a PC so I guess that might present some problems?

I've always used an installer disc called Slayers Auto Install, or something along those lines. Sorts everything out for you like partitions etc. It runs EvoX as the default OS, but you can change XBMC to be the boot OS easily enough. Can sort you out with this disc if you're desperate.

I use Macs aswell Phil, you are fine.

Error 13 means someone has deleted or moved the MS dash. Will you be using it with the chip off?

To get it back on you need to hotswap (not recommended) or a Slayers disk.

Go for the Slayers, download the latest XBMC from T3ch, and then set it up so it boots straight to xbmc.

I can help you with all this if you like.

Sounds reasonably straight-forward. I did once soft-mod a machine, but it was so long ago I can't remember how and don't have the time to spend re-acquiring the know-how!

I'd like to have the option of chip-off operation, just so that I can

If you can give me some straightforward instructions and point me in the right direction for the files and some suitable Mac apps it would be greatly appreciated.

If it won't boot when chip is disabled check disk is locked.
To boot straight to XBMC follow the instructions in the readme -

              Code:
              _DASHBOARD INSTALL______________________________________________________
Option 1. Team XBMC's shortcut tool.
It's included in the _tools folder as >>SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe<< + >>SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.cfg<<.
              	Instructions here: [url]http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=As_a_Dashboard[/url] (Option 1).
Rename the >>SHORTCUT by TEAM XBMC.xbe<<+.cfg & also EDIT the .cfg so it matches your config.
              	See APPLICATION INSTALL above.

Option 2. Thanks to an app called >>Team UIX's Xbe Shortcut Maker v1.0<< by JbOnE, it's now easy...
Transfer contents of XBMC folder (this is >>VERY<< important since the tool is hardcoded) TO >>/E:/APPS/XBMC/<<.
Rename >>SHORTCUT by TEAM UIX.xbe<< to something your bios can boot (see [url]http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=As_a_Dashboard[/url] or read your BIOS README) and transfer to location your mod solution boots. No need to fiddle with HOME tag anymore, and future upgrades you need not to worry about this file (unless you move XBMC).
With the shortcut you need to replace the current .xbe that is being started (evoxdash.xbe) on the C: partition with the shortcut one and ensure the name matches the one it replaces. It is well worth having a Slayers disk handy as it will give you FTP access should you fcuk up.

The boot process is this :-

Modchip has custom BIOS that calls a specific filename which is usually C:\evoxdash.xbe as mentioned above. If you replace this with your XBMC shortcut it will pass on the boot to e:\apps\XBMC\default.xbe which is where you should copy your XBMC files to. If you want it somewhere else see option 1 above.

              Hey Nick, How's it going?
              Have you got L4D?

Yes, be sure that the HD is locked and that there's un unmodified xboxdash.xbe on the C-partition. The XBMC as default is pretty straightforward as probably mentioned above: or you set the default bootcheck sequence on the modchip itself (don't know if X2 does this, X3 surely does), or you paste the XBMC files in the root of C and make sure the XBMC.xbe is renamed to match the "previous dash.xbe".

Good thanks mate, not got it yet. How are you?

Quick xbox related question to you and Tom.

I have a 1.6 Crystal here i was trying to softmod, deleted accidentally xboxdash.xbe, so now i can't do anything with it, won't even boot from the Slayers disk so no ftp access.

What do you think my options are? Hardwire a chip?

                  Cheers.

The softmod needs to boot the original dash first to make use of the exploit.
If it won't get that far then temporarily wire in a chip using one of the spare cables you no doubt have left over

Thanks for the advice Smouty. Once I have a Slayers disc I'll give it a whirl
