    PS3 Blu Ray drive broken

I noticed a 50p and 2p piece hanging out my PS3's disc slot that my son must have done, promptly removed them and there didn't appear to be anything else in it.

Played LBP for a wee bit and everything seemed ok (although there was a slight 'clunk' when the disc went in)
Thought i'd check some blurays out as well, put the Goonies in and it's jammed and won't read the disc obviously. Tried all the methods to force the disc out but to no avail.

There's no doubt another coin or something stuck in the drive but what do I do. It's under warranty (2-3 months left) but that's 'accidental damage'. On the other hand, if I keep quiet and send it off to Sony and they open it up and find something wedged in, surely they wouldn't just send it back without just removing the object (thus fixing it).

I've checked the tutorials on doing it yourself and i'd rather not.

    Any suggestions/similar experiences?

    Cheers

Have you tried rotating it so that whatever it is falls into the tray? (Has visions of you shaking it upsdie down )

Worst case scenario, sign up to Sony's £5 a month extended warranty program - covers your PS3 against everything. Just pay the cash and wait a couple weeks so it doesn't look suspect.

Also, if your son is young enough not to realise that putting coins into a PS3 is a bad thing, then he's probably too young to be messing about with them - just be glad they went there and not down his throat!

Sony will just do an on the door repalcement. They replaced my 60gb unit (that was over a year old) for a refurbished unit when my Blu ray drive died

Just phone them and tell them the Blu Ray drive is dead

I'm going to be starting work on an Asian one soon, fixing/changing the Blu Ray drive. I'll let you know how i get on.

If Sony don't end up doing anything (which from testimonials above is unlikely) wouldn't your home contents insurance cover something like this?

Years and years ago when my Grandad's VCR stopped working (I forget why) he just claimed that my younger brother (who was 1/2 years old at the time) stuck something in there and it got replaced no fuss (this was 15 years or so ago now).

Just called up and said the bluray drive wasn't working and they're replacing it at the door on 2nd February. No probs. I'll whip my 160gb harddrive out and shove the 40gb back in (which is knackered anyway from a failed software update).

                    No worries.

                    Cheers for the advice guys
