HDTV giving "Mode Not Supported" error with Xbox 360

I was playing Fable 2 not ten minutes ago with no problems, until I transitioned into a different area of the world.

As soon as the transition started, the picture went dead and my TV started showing cycling blocks of colour (Red, green, blue, pink etc). When I restarted the 360 my TV game up with the Mode Not Supported error, despite none of the modes being changed.

I've tried switching back down to SDTV and using the standard Red, Yellow, White AV port on my TV with no joy, so I'm thinking it's a problem with my 360 rather than my TV. Or at least, I'm hoping it is.

Has my 360 finally gone the same way as so many others and given up the ghost or do I just have to buy a new AV cable?

    Edit: Few more details.

My TV is a Samsung LE40M87BDX, with the 360 running at 1080p over Component.

The blocky colours is apparently a symptom of the same problem that causes the 3RL. So it could be your 360.

I'm sure someone can give you more detail. Here's a knowledge base article I found by searching for "reset 360 video" on google:

I usually get the "mode not supported" on my Sammy when I use a resolution not supported, like Ico on the PS2 (smaller than 480i).

Well, I've just tried it on an SDTV in the house, and managed to get sound, but no picture, which leads me to believe that it's a graphics card issue.

Hopefully it will RRoD so I can get it replaced under the extended three year warranty.
