new router belkin N1

Have Virgin broadband with free Netgear router.
Decided to replace this router with a Belkin N1- but cant get it to connect.
Any help appreciated.

Unplugged the modem from the mains and then reconnected it? The modem takes the first MAC address it receives and then only allows that address until the modem is rebooted.

Well, that was a mistake, wasn't it? ESPECIALLY replacing a Netgear, which are about the best routers you can get.

All the times I've written about pre-N hardware, here - I'm just gonna give up.
