Gamecube Region Help

Hi all,

I've recently purchased my first Gamecube (UK PAL version) and I'm wondering what the compatibility is with US/Japanese games. Do I need to purchase a Freeloader to play them?

Is it a pearl white GC because if so you have to be careful what Freeloader version you're getting? The pearl white GCs apparently don't work with older Freeloaders so you need to make sure you get whatever was the last version. I think it was 1.06B but you should get that confirmed first.

FYI I've also read that Jap games (not US) also require you to use a separate memory card as saving apparently may reformat or corrupt any other region saves you might have on it. I'm sure others here have more information about this and can confirm it too.

You can save US and Japanese games to one memory card, but PAL games need a different one.

Not quite, US + UK saves can go on the same card. NOT Japanese.

Don't mean to depress you Scott but might be worth just getting a cheap NTSC gamecube from the off. They can go for about ?20 on here or rllmuk, and i could region switch it for you.
