    Finding a Jasper 360 Premium

Any advice? All the stores in Glasgow only seem to carry Falcon-based Premiums. Ideally, if anyone here knows of any online retailers that can guarantee delivery of a Jasper console then I'd be much obliged.

If possible, ask if you can check the box for the sticker which tells you the manufacturing date and the serial numbers.

I think the boxes say 150W on them somewhere? Actually I could have just made that up. Anyway, on shopto they have the elite listed as "175w power supply" so it's a falcon, but the premium doesn't say anthing. So could be earlier or later than the falcon email and ask.

Oh, I know how to identify one. I did ask if staff could open up the box and allow me a short glimpse of the serial plate on the console.

The 12, 1 A rating identifies the newer, Jasper-based consoles. The problem is they still seem to be rather rare, even after the holiday season. In fact, one store had just been sent new stock, and they all contained Falcon chips.

My reasoning is, if I'm going to be buying a new console with a history of hardware failure, I may as well hold out for an iteration that's been designed for better long-term stability.

There are some XBox Arcades fitted with the newer chips, but I'd much rather have a Premium, with all its whiz-bang features.

Perhaps you can buy a falcon one from GAME and it breaks down X months down the line, you can take it back for a brand new replacement. The chances are, it'll be a Jasper.

You're quite right. A little google-fu suggests that the motherboard revision hasn't quite trickled onto the production of Premiums. Maybe I'll have better luck a few weeks after RE5 launches.

The few shops i've tried in the south wales area still only have August 2008 models, dispite them being recent january stocks.

I've just picked one up for my brother from Gamestation in Brighton. 60GB premium with Jasper chipset (manufactured 20/1/2009).

I asked specifically for a Jasper and the guy in Gamestation went and got a 360 from the back checked the lot number on the side of the box and said 'yep, that's a jasper'. I was slightly unconvinced but after getting home and checking the PSU and power rating on the back of the 360 the guy was right.

Just tested it and boy is it quiet.

Most of the Jaspers are in the Arcades. They are only just starting to appear in the Premiums, and then maybe the Elites.

The Official LE Resident Evil 5 bundle is a Jasper apparently.

I have a Jasper arcade with a 60gb Xbox live starter kit, so I guess that makes mine a Premium. In fact, it's got 25mb memory built-in (for NXE) so I guess it's technically better than a premium?

gunrock, could you please dispell a rumour I heard regarding Arcade Jaspers and game saves. I've read that having the onboard 256mb nags you each and every time to choose the onboard memory or the hard drive (regardless of whether you have already done so the first time).

I know there are some games out there that do ask every time, but the rumour is that the Jasper arcade does it across the board.

My Jasper doesn't ask every time.

Thanks. It sounded like a major pain in the arse and a tad far-fetched.

I don't agree, it's the first thing I've noticed with my new Jasper, it always asks for save location, even on Arcade games like Doom.

A small price to pay, I wanted HDMI and (remains to be seen) a more reliable 360.
