Nope just bought one, because i had a compentent to vga transcoder, and needed a scaler for retro consoles ^^.
I just found a site http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/ , which reviewed some scalers. it seems that there are a lot of clones going around these days. The arcarde version of the HDboxpro looks interesting.

Can't understand them taking out the 640x480 mode?! That's really bad.

it is rather odd as thats essentially removing the passthrough option (assuming people are using this for sd consoles) and forcing you to upscale the image. still like i said, as long as 1680x1050 is supported im happy.

        EDIT:

        Dear Michael,

As our record, your HD BOX PRO is still under the first year warranty, the cost for repair are the shipping fee 1) the fee you ship to us (the lowest cost with tracking number will be better) 2) the fee we send it back to you (HKD80) but if the box is broken by personal reason, it may have some extra charge on it.

We can offer HKD220 (HD BOX PRO only) + HKD80 (Postage) for this case. It may help you to save some time for waiting the HD BOX PRO for repair.

        Yours,

        Martin

woo! i think that means that i have to pay them postage and thats all. not sure what the second part means though... still im happy if it means i dont have to fork out $110 for a new one

I think that means that if you don't want to wait for your one to be repaired, you can buy one for HKD220 (for a new box) and HKD80 (for the P&P), thus offering it to you at HKD300, which I believe is about £30.

What a result. I guess it just took them some time to get to your email.

well my hd box came back today! ended up costing me about $30 in postage both ways but at least i didnt have to buy a new one.

ive got the newer revision like conflakes has and there is indeed no 640x480 option. it does have some improvements though.

if it isnt recieving a signal for a while then it goes into standby. handy for me as it means when i turn my screen back on, i dont have to switch inputs back to the pc. also when its not recieving a signal instead of just a blank screen it actually says "no signal up in the corner. amazing!!

but, when im using the wii on it, there are slight borders on the left and right sides. i could be imagining it but im sure it used to fill out the whole screen...

Good news that it's back, Meks.

Are you sure the borders aren't there because of aspect ratio settings? (apologies in advance if that's a stupid question).

A few Wii games have slight borders on the side in widescreen... possibly 4:3 as well actually. The main menu doesn't though.

broken again, i suspect due to power cord not quite sitting in the box properly. annoyed that I lucked out twice but hd box guys are going to send me another so i cant really complain

That's odd. Did you used the new PSU that was supplied with it or did you used the old one? I did notice that all psu are designed for other electrical devices, i.e. mine is used by the iRiver iPH-100 player.

Mine PSU doesn't sit well in the socket either, the HD box pro is forever going on or off, should I accidently move the box or whatever.

Poor design, but for the money it's still a decent product. Just needs some polish.

I just screwed it open, and notice that there is a serial port on the pcb. Does anyone know if there are some kind of homebrew projects for custom firmwares going around? It would be nice if we could hack 1920x1080 support, since newer LCD monitors seems to move towards this resolution.
As for the psu port, it seems like hit or miss, a friend of mine got his box supplied with a d-link psu, which sit loosely on it, mine on the other hand, fits a bit better, still moves howwever, if i put some force into it.

mine is the dlink psu that came when i first bought it and yeah it does sit very loosely, but once i get a new one i plan on unplugging it when its not in use.
