    Importing an ipod

SuperDan is mega pissed off, ive just bought a uk spec 120gb classic totally unaware of the 'eu volume cap' it is ****, its so quite compared to my old nano that i can not bare to use it, (before anyone asks it is supposed to be like this, its not a faulty unit, all eu bought ipods are now volume restriced via firmware and cannot be hacked) luckly for me i was planning on getting another to use exclusively in a dock with my new hi fi when i get it however i wasnt planning on getting it this soon so the eu classic will now be for exclusive use in a dock as correct me if im wrong? Using it in a dock bypasses the volume limiter thus should be ok for hooking up to the hi fi, but i now need ANOTHER 120gb classic from outside the eu for when im out and about, ebay is a possibilty however id rather not risk it if i can import from elsewhere? Any idea where? Thanks, oh and **** you eu/apple!

    This won't work then?

This wikiHow teaches you how to unlock the volume limit on any non-touch iPod such as the iPod Classic, iPod Nano, or iPod Shuffle. Keep in mind that some iPods, such as the ones produced in Europe, may have a manufacturer-imposed limit on...

Hmm, no idea ive never heard of that method, but apperently the latest gen ipods, and the previous couple before that cant be hacked. might be selling it now though having had a think about it, and importing one, theres no point having two. Edit: this is for removing the 'parental control' volume limiter if you dont know the pin, not the firmware volume cap, thanks anyway.

Pain in the ass, isn't it? I'll decide a comfortable listening volume thanks very much. This is why any portable audio stuff I've bought has been imported from the US or Japan... or in the case of the Sony NW-HD5 (how I miss it), unlocked in the service menu.

Is it just the volume on the original Ipod model that's locked? I have no idea whether it is or not on the touch models, but the maximum volume on that is so high, people at the back of a bus can hear it if I'm sat at the front.

How loud exactly do you like your music?

The maximum volume on the Classic is much lower than on the iPhone or iPod touch for some reason.

But it is still capped on the Touch here.

Oh yeah? That's strange. My iPhone's volume goes about a third higher than my Classic. *shrug*

Is yours a first or second gen? Seriously if the second gen is capped then that can only be a good thing, any louder and your ears'll be bleeding!
