Wasn't sure where to put this, I know people have moaned about this before but it's probably too expensive to be a way around the problem for everybody.
I know there is a wired workaround but I think this is the first wire free version.
Pre-order here.

A new accessory from Audio Authority will allow you to control a Sony PlayStation 3 using an IR-only remote control.
The device, which is called the BlueBeam IR to Bluetooth converter, acts as a bridge between the remote control and the gaming console. Once connected, consumers can operate all their home theatre gear using just one remote instead of having to use a separate Bluetooth device for the PS3.
"A number of custom integrators and consumers use the Playstation 3 in home entertainment systems because it's a fantastic Blu-ray player, and provides incredible media extender capabilities," explains Trent Davis, Product Manager at Audio Authority. "However, the limitation of the PS3's Bluetooth-only control is a major headache to integrators and users alike. The BlueBeam solves that problem, and helps integrators deliver a better product to their customer."
The BlueBeam does not require a wired connection with the Playstation 3 to operate. Rather, it's powered by an optional powerpack, USB connection, or included AA batteries, and sits within 30 feet of the PS3. The tiny unit (it's just over 3" in size) can receive IR signals from any universal remote, than converts them to Bluetooth commands. All PS3 buttons are supported, including discrete off and on commands. Using the PC setup utility, installers can also create up to 10 macros. The device is fully firmware upgradeable.
Audio Authority's C-1071 BlueBeam IR to Bluetooth converter will be available in late March for an anticipated MSRP of $159.
