ATI Radeon HD 4550 no HDMI sound problem

i've replaced my old X600Pro GPU through a HD 4550 card with native HDMI output, mainly to update my PC to HD standard and get both picture and sound through one single HDMI cable.

however, after installing the software (GPU driver, CCC + ATI HDMI sound driver) there's neither sound through HDMI nor any option to set audio output to HDMI or replace my Realtek AC97 on-board chipset with the ATI 7.1 audio chipset. meanwhile i've updated my AC97 driver and also installed a Realtek HD audio driver pack but it didn't do anything. i'm clueless now and would highly appreciate any help or hint.

If your new gfx is one of these new funky "all in one jobbies" with its own built in sound card you may find that you need to remove the drivers and disable the realtek one on your motherboard in the bios settings. I had this problem when I installed my Auzentech soundcard, all the settings worked but no sound until I did the above.

Just had a read of some of the blurb for that range - mixed reviews some say passthrough others not?
