Using EMS Topgun II on PS3 for Guncon 2 games

Evening lords and ladies,
Was considering picking up one of these: http://www.thegametrain.com/lcd-topg...gun-p-812.html.
A TopGun 2 for the PS3 as it is apparently guncon 2 compatible and I'm eager to play TC 2 & 3 on my U.S 60gb machine.
I know charlesr did a review of the first model. But my question was has anyone tried these with a PS3 and any Guncon2 compatible titles, as like all Ps2 games, surely it would need some sort of home button to be pressed to register it? I.e. can I just bung Time Crisis 2 in the PS3 drive and hook up the lightgun and be away of do I need another adapter with a 'home' button?

I'm fairly certain it'll just detect it as a controller without needing to use an 'home' button to register it, works that way for saturn pads and as far as I'm aware my Guncon 3 doesn't have an 'home' button either, when playing TC4 it detects it just fine so would assume that the Topgun 2 should work the same way.

Hmmm cheers for the reply. I didn't realise it picks ups Saturn USB pads in PS2 mode, is this correct?
I thought all PS2 titles needed to be re-synched with the home button?

Sorry, I was talking about PS1 titles and the pad on my non BC PS3, had no idea they may not work with PS2 games. According to this thread on the EMS site the gun should work fine for playing PS2 games on the PS3.

You've peaked my interest in this now, Escape-To-88. It says it's compatble with PS2, but i can't see a PS2 connector on the end Also, would it likely work with PS1 games on my PS2 do you think? I now have a serious urge to play all the Point Blanks & Time Crisis' over again

If it works with g-con 2 games on a ps3 it should work with ps1 games. Im up for getting one of these too. Would love to hear from someone who owns one.

It has a PS2 connector and a USB one as well as an XBOX end to.
It is apparently only compatible with G-Con 2 games not PS1 titles.

I'm trying to set up the Topgun2, it doesn't seem to have a PS2 pad type connector, but the two USB ends for the PS2 instead.

I've set up the sensors, get the gun firing sound, but Time Crisis 3 won't go beyond the 'shoot cursor' screen.

If I unplug the gun and load the game with just the pad, it then won't let me go into gun mode.

I have two scart leads, a generic one with the three extra holes and a Blaze one with just the extra video slot. I haven't used a Guncon type gun since PS1 days, so can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

This drove me nuts for almost an hour.

Hi mate, in response to your pm about how to get this to work:

No idea I'm afraid I used it on Time Crisis 2 (U.S) on my US Ps2 and worked fine. I really have no idea mate as I used it primarily on the P.C, just gave it a test on the Ps2 quickly and all was fine. To be honest I can't even remember if I had my U.S Ps3 when I got the gun as I sold my U.S Ps3 early 2010 and have only recently picked up a UK model, so I wouldn't have thought I tested it on a Ps3 unless it was my mates with TC2 as I had a UK version of that for a while. Although did have a BC UK model - which I sold on here as it happens around the time when I sold you the gun.

As for the gun I only had it for about a week and wasn't getting enough use so didn't try it with every game, as I sold it to you back in May you've actually owned it for far longer than I ever did now, and my brain is like swiss cheese so think my BC Ps3 was sold/being sold - also I didn't actually own TC3 :-)

Are you sure it works with TC3? Not sure it works with every game. The general consensus was that it was a bit hit-and-miss but if you've heard of other people getting it to work then guess it should mate. As like I say, you effectively got it new as I only used it about four times in the week I had it and decided I simply wouldn't get the use out of it.

Sorry mate, might be worth checking out the EMS topgun forums. So was all new in the box etc. just in case you think something is missing. I know you have to set it up differently on the TV to the P.C. I found P.C setup far easier from what I can remember.

I think I said in the pm I sent today that I may have tested this on my Ps3, but to be honest I'm not sure I even had my Ps3 when I had the gun as I say I was on the verge of selling it, and I may have just tested it on my Ps2. Like I say I'm not 100% as I've sold and traded quite a few PS3's in the last couple of years and two months ago might as well be last year in my old brain haha - good luck.

I actually tried it for the first time last night, just haven't had the time or chance until now.

Sorry I can't be of more help mate It worked great with the Model 2 Emu on the PC with Vcop etc. that's all I originally bought it for as was always planning on getting a MOVE and Time Crisis Raizing Storm to get my PS3 gun fix, so have no idea. Have you tried the Topgu nforums?
