    Xbox 360 HDMI colour problem

Since launch, I've been connected via a component cable, and it's been fine. My 360 died, I got a new one, and since it's HDMI I figured that'd be a better way to go. It seems to be, it's noticeably sharper so I want to continue using it, but there's a problem, the colour looks really, really washed out and dull. There's no vibrancy to it at all, whereas there was loads when connected by component. I imagine if I played Gears of War right now it'd just load as a plain grey screen. Even Peggle looks rubbish.

Is there anything I can do on the Xbox to make it better, or is it a case of messing with my TV settings being the only option?

I think you need to change the black level to expanded (in the console settings).

You also need to set the colour format to match your display, if you don't have a display that can show the wider colour format and the xbox is set to this it will look washed out.

Cheers, that does appear to improve things somewhat

It was on RGB, but I went through them all and nothing changed - I just set it to auto now.

There is an 'auto-optimise' option in the dashboard when using HDMI, that talks to your TV and works out what's best. Not sure how well it works though. It might just be the way your TV handles HDMI though - I get the opposite on mine (washed out colours on VGA but much richer ones over HDMI).

It is under reference levels, make sure you try all those.
