Best place for a PS2 Component cable

Right I've had more than enough of my TV downscaling my RGB Scart to Compo****e so it's finally time to buy a PS2 Component cable & I just wondered if anyone could recommend one & where to get them??

Are the Game own brand ones any good??

SoftUK have the PS3 one for ?7.99 but out of stock so not sure wether to take a plunge on it or not.

    So anyone got any recommendations??

Just wish I could get one for my Saturn as well

It's the same as the PS3 one, so just get whichever is cheapest.

    There's a fine looking one.

I've got one going spare (well, it's not being used) if you fancy it mate. Probably do it for a fiver plus postage... if you don't go for the eBay auction.

Is your one an official one by any chance??
The ?4 one on Ebay is mighty tempting

It's a Joytech cable, works great, just never really used the PS2 on the LCD much.

Sounds slightly more up my street than the Unbraded Ebay one

I've just started getting back to playing my PS2 after somtime away & I think I've been spoilt by the prettiness of the 360 recently because the PS2 looks incredibly grainy using the RGB Scart now
But on further investigation it appears that my JVC CRT Set doesnt like RGB & actually downscales it to Composite for some reason
Even though it clearly states in the manual it's RGB compatible which sucks & I'm hoping using Component will rectify the problem of grainyness...it almost makes the Darkstalkers collection unplayable because of the terrible picture quality.

Anywho pop me a PM if you like & we'll sort something out if you deffinitley want rid of it?

Might sound daft but are you sure you are plugging it into the RGB enabled Scart socket? Usually only one Scart socket on a TV is RGB enabled and the other only accepts S-Video and Composite. If you plug it in to the wrong Scart socket you will only get a Composite picture.

I've tried it in all 3

Scart 1 is the RGB enabled one & previously I had mainly been using 2 or 3 for my Scart consoles but I evetually got tired of the poor quality & decided to swap it over with my Sky Box in Socket 1.
Picture was slightly improved but not enough to make a huge difference to the way the games looked so I'm hoping a Component cable run through my Joytech 540C AV Centre will be a marked improvement.

This is a well know quirk of the JVC HV-32P37 and some of their other HD CRT models.

Actually it isn't quite as simple as described; they only default to Composite at 60Hz. With standard PAL 50Hz you'll get full RGB via a suitably enabled SCART socket.

I've tried to understand why this happens and asked on numerous forums if there is any DIY solution but have never received definiitive answers. Best explanation I had is that for some reason at 60Hz the RGB switching control voltage to pin16(18) is incorrect and turns it 'off' causing the default to Composite. Absolutely no idea if this is correct or not.

This RGB SCART 60Hz annoyance made me go the Component route for everything attached to my JVC TV.

I imported the Sony Official PS3 (for my PS2) cables relatively cheaply a year ago. However, as well made as they appear to be I can't see any PQ benefit over my unbranded Lik-Sang or GAME component cables costing half as much.

Funny you should mention the HV-32P37 Thats the set I have lol

Never heard about the pin issue but then to be honest I was just soldiering along with it up until recently.
It's only since I've started playing Garegga & Batsugun on my Saturn & Darkstalkers collection on the PS2 that the RGB problem has become an actual issue for me & I dont think I can put up with it much longer

It's just a shame that I wont be able to do anything about the Saturn with it

You could try a RGB SCART to Component transcoder. That is what I am now seriously considering for use with my Dreamcast which otherwise is a bit of pain to use with the JVC TV. Around ?40 on eBay.

Second choice really as ideally I wanted a VGA to Component one but the price of even the cheapest makes it prohibitive.

Oh I feel the pain with the Dreamcast...mine has been confined to the loft since I got my JVC as it just wont play on it at all @ 60Hz using Scart

However I have been considering getting one of these for my Saturn & using the Audio cables I've had wired in to the Scart cable to run the sound to my amp as it doesnt carry audio

But not sure how good it will be??

Sorry but I don't know the Saturn well but I thought it had a normal RGB SCART lead like the DC.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood but the Hama device is just a SCART to phono/RCA adapter.

It calls itself a Component (RGB) to SCART adapter and that is correct because RGB and even S-Video are all technically component signals. But it is a confusing description as Component is now usually reserved for the colour system designated by the abbreviations YUV, YPbPr or YCbCr which is completely incompatible with RGB without a transcoder.

Some AV equipment uses RGB with sync on CV (composite video) via phono/RCA rather than by SCART and that's what that Hama adapter is for, converting RGB via SCART to RGB via phono/RCA or vice versa, nothing more.

If you know all this, sorry but it wasn't clear to me what you wanted the adapter to do. It sounded as if you expected it to convert RGB (SCART) to Component (YUV).

                              Maybe of use:-

Also look at the JS Technology web site for a range of other converters.
