PS2 controller mysteriously dead

Anyone else had this happen? My spare PS2 controller from my old fat PAL PS2 was in storage for a year or more, I took it out this weekend to use with my slimline JAP NTSC PS2 and to my surprise it sent the screen options into a constant loop on every game I tried it on. It worked perfectly with my fat PAL PS2 before storage. The only thing I can think is that it isn't compatible with the slimline JAP NTSC PS2 or that storing it with the cable wrapped around the controller somehow "broke" it. I no longer have the old PAL machine to test it with. Weird.

That is rather strange, my friend had a cursed Dreamcast controller that literally rendered any dreamcast permanently dead upon being inserted.

That is very bizarre. I'll never store any controllers with the cable wrapped around it again. But as far as anyone knows, a FAT PAL controller works fine on a slimline NTSC machine right?
