I currently have RGB Scart but that means the audio comes out of the telly rather than my amp. What are my options?

Speak to Chaotic Jelly I'm pretty sure he can mod your RGB cable to have RCA outs for connection to an amp.
Thats what I have on my one & it works fine.
Ideally I'd love for someone to be able to hack my RGB cable & make a component cable for me because my TV sucks at displaying RGB through Scart but I doubt it's possible

I bought my Philips HDTV specifically because it handled RGB standard def so wellIn fact component looks no better than RBG on this tv.
The modding the scart cable thing seems like a good idea. I bet I could do that myself actually.
EDIT: I PMd Chaotic Jelly a few weeks ago about some Saturn stuff but he didn't respond :-(Last edited by Brad; 17-04-2009, 09:54.

Could do with a bedroom set to be honest & if RGB is good then it may be my Unit of choice for the Retro goodies
I know he's pretty busy alot of the time but you could try getting him through his website...

I dont know why everybody seems to love Scart cables with phono/RCA out sockets! There are much easier ways to get stereo/prologic sound that dont require multiple phono cables and specific scart cables with phono sockets for each console:-
Method 1
The easiest way is if your TV has phono out sockets, just wire them up to you amp and any connected device will have its sound routed out from the TV. Sounds kind of obvious but not everyone realises that this is possible. Many modern sets have phono out sockets but most people dont even realise they are there (Sometimes they are on the side of the TV instead of the back, labeled as 'L R/Phono Output' or similar)
Method 2
On most modern TV's theres usually always two scart sockets, one is RGB enabled, and the other only accepts S-Video and Composite. What most people dont realise is that Scart sockets are 'bi-directional' with Composite Video and Stereo sound signals, in other words they input and output stereo sound at the same time. So all you need is something like this:-
Put it in Scart socket 2 (You could use either scart socket, but surely you dont want to use up the RGB one right?) and switch the adaptor to 'output', connect up some phono cables and there you go - stereo phono outputs for practically any TV! Now you should be able to get stereo sound from any device thats connected to your telly
(One little thing to note, on my Scart adaptor they had labelled the input/output switch the wrong way round, so flicking it to 'input' actually made it 'output')

I actually used to use Method 1 like you said on my Telly but I was getting really funny intereference on the left side & it turns out my one left phono output is broken so I now use my RCA enabled Scart cable for the Saturn instead.
As you've said it's a really simple way of getting everything in one solution but if you cant do it then unfortunatley you need cables with extra cableslol

1 is RGB for Consoles
2 is Sky
3 is DVD Recorder
Hence I use my RGB cable with Audio out for Saturn.
Other option for me I guess could be something like this...
& use it to ouptut the audio to my amp??

Although I have read that some unpowered Scart switchers can cause the signals to degrade and lead to intererence on screen. Supposedly one of the best Scart switchers are the powered Joytech AV Control Centre's, theres a review here:-
It's not often we bother with getting our hands dirty with the business of reviewing hardware here on Eurogamer; there …
I dont think they have phono out sockets that are wired to the Scart sockets sound output, but considering you will be freeing up the Scart sockets on your TV you could then just use 'Method 2' with the Scart adaptor.
IIRC There was a Joytech Control Centre for sale for this forum a few weeks ago for about £15.Last edited by Link83; 17-04-2009, 11:24.
