    PS3 losing time/date

    Hey everyone.

My PS3 is losing the date and time now and again, asking me to set it when I turn it on.

On my extension lead I don't have enough sockets for all my systems so I swap consoles on one of the sockets, is this the cause? Is my PS3 not being played enough to remember the date/time, or do you guys think there is a fault?

I had to set it last night, and the PS3 was on for around 2 hours, maybe a bit more. When I switched it on this afternoon it asked me to set the date/time again. The system was not on standby overnight, I switched it off from the back.

    Thanks.

That's odd.. out of curiosity do you set the time/date manually or by internet? I do mine by internet and have never had to set it again, but it does drift and I have to correct it every few months.

This is OT but when I earn a trophy the date/time on it does not correspond to the slightly off PS3 clock, but to the correct time displayed on my TV.

      Hey Darwock,

I've always done it manually, but my PS3 is connected to my router, how do I do it via the net?

      Thanks.

I just found the option in the menu to set it with the internet. Hopefully this will sort it.

        Thanks.

I just switched on my PS3 and it's asked me again to set the date/time, even though I'd set it to 'via the internet' from the settings menu when it was last on.

It had been on for around 4+ hours last night. Does the PS3 save the date/time with an internal battery like other systems?

Does anyone know what is happening?

          Thank you.

If its anything like the Xbox/360, it will have a capacitor that charges while on, but slowly discharges when the mains power is off for long periods. If something is wrong with the capacitor, it might not be charging up properly, or discharging very quickly.

If its asking you to set the clock immediately after a reboot, then its a good bet it isn't charging at all.

It seems the cause of this was having a USB extension lead in one of the USB sockets. Very strange. Since unplugging the lead, it has not prompted me again.

Was it an 'active repeater' USB extension lead? (eg one with a small block at the female end, usually 5m long) If so I think they have a small circuit inside with some capacitors, and they were probably draining what little power there was left in your PS3.

My PSP keeps doing this as well, usually after not having used it for a particularly long period of time.
