Best free image editing software

I'm looking for a piece of software like photoshop but free. Is there anything? Any recommendations?

I don't know exactly what you want to do with it, but The GIMP is the most like Photoshop. The interface is well wonky, but you can give GIMPshop a search, which looks a lot more like Photoshop.

If you just want to do really basic image adjustments, Google's Picasa is free and really easy to use.

I use paint.net at work for basic image editing. Not really used it for much advanced stuff. Its pretty good for what I use it for.

Pixlr is well worth a look and is maturing nicely every month. Its at least worth using when you are away from your normal Photoshop / Gimp setup.
