Wii LAN adaptor problems - any advice?

    Hi everyone,

Have just tried to connect my PAL Wii to the net, via my router and the official Nintendo LAN adaptor and....it refuses to work. I've tried manually entering the settings, but that's not helping either.

The cable/router I'm using enables me to connect my 360 and PS3 to the net with no problems - and automatically as well (i.e. I haven't had to enter any settings).

Has anyone got any thoughts, or encountered similar problems, as I'm stumped (and fed up).

    Cheers
    Tony

    Dodgy LAN cable?
That port on your router doesn't work?

maybe the device is faulty? Have you used the adaptor beforehand or is it new? I doubt its faulty but I'd try using the exact same cable as a test, that you're using for the ps3 etc. Maybe its not getting its DHCP information assigned correctly although I can't think for the life of me why not.

Do you have anything like MAC address filtering enabled on the router?

I used to use lan adapter cable and the tests failed for me everytime. For some reason though it worked for everything else.
Have you tried just going online in a game or connecting the the VC shop?

Thanks for the reponses guys, much appreciated.

The cable is fine - last night I used it to connect my 360 and then my PS3 to the net, using the same router I used with the Wii.

When I enter settings, which is what the manual suggests I do when it won't work automatically, I use the same settings as I do for the 360. And still it doesn't work.

@Kernow - the adaptor is new. Bought from HMV.com and arrived yesterday.

@jamesy - haven't tried that, so will have a go later tonight. Fingers crossed.

          Cheers again everyone. Tony.

Bizarre. I can't think what it'd be to be honest. I'd probably take it back and try another, or erm, I could test it or you could test it on someone elses wii. Can't think for the life of me why it doesn't work to be honest.

What I can't understand is why using the same router and LAN Cable, the PS3 and 360 get online straight away, without any hassle, yet the Wii doesn't. Would suggest it's a Wii issue, surely?

Might sound like a silly question, but when you say 'settings' are you refering to your Router settings or the Wii settings? I remember seeing on the Wii Internet Settings page an option to select a Wired connection instead of Wireless, after selecting that it should just connect (Unless you have mac address blocking enabled on your router?)

That's the problem mate, it doesn't. I select wired connection, then the Wii does the test and says it can't connect to the net. The manual tells you to manually enter various settings if this problem occurs!

I haven't checked the settings page on the wii itself, but can you manually specify IP/gateway/DNS server information and try it that way? Maybe the DHCP information isn't getting assigned properly.

I've done that Kernow - still doesn't work!

I've returned the LAN adaptor to HMV.com, in case it was that. Once it's been refunded, I'll try the datel LAN adaptor, as it seems a few people on here use that with no problems.

Cheers for all the advice guys.
