    Half Life Problems

    Hello,

Does anyone know if you can get the original Half Life to lay on a Windows XP computer. I have tried looking for updates but can not seem to find one that would work.

It is the very first half life that came out all those years ago. No add ons or nothing!!

    Any help would be great.

Yes you can, all you need is a patch m8.

Goto fileplanet or something, the latest patch is HL110 and works on all versions of HL, mine is big box from release day.

Cheers guys, I have downloaded the patch and will install it asap. I used a site called aus gamers or something. They had loads of stuff and new demos of all sorts.

I haven't played Half Life for a couple of years and am looking forward to returning. Better go as I'm at work!

AUS Gamers? Are they based in Australia then? I assume you are on BB as you just downloaded a 100mb file, but was the ping good or poor... I'm looking for somewhere to download CS 1.6 when it is released...

Yeah I am on Broadband and yes I think they are in Australia. I only found them myself in the last few hours so am not sure about the specifics. I'm not too sure what the ping is. But I downloaded the new Call of Duty demo in around 30 mins I think it was. That's 185mb. Pretty quick if you ask me.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but it seemed to make more sense than starting a new one

Anyway, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with ATI RADEON 9800 Pro video card. However, Half-Life continues to crash back to Windows whenever the main game tries to start.

It will load fine if I select the Software video option, but whenever I try to use Open GL or Direct 3D options the crash occurs. I've applied the most recent patch for HL and installed the latest CATALYST Windows XP 3.7 driver, but still no joy.

                Any suggestions?

That combination works ok for me. Did you use the cleaning utility noted in the other thread on here for the 3.7s to clean out the old drivers properly?
