PAL 360 with Jasper motherboard - where to find?

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a Jasper at the moment?

A friend received a 60GB Jasper from Amazon, but they say they cannot guarantee the motherboard type. Scouring the local shops they only seem to stock older units around here.

Are there any mail order places that will verify the motherboard type for you?

I don't particularly mind 60GB/120GB, but I do need the hdd.

    Thanks

easy way to tell is if it has the increaced (256mb i think?) flash memory. as for guaranteeing its a jasper, wouldnt most if not all new models be one?

Yeah, an arcade with built in storage would be a Jasper. The couple I've looked at haven't been jasper models though, and I still need that hdd. Not sure if the 60gb/120gb models have internal memory card as well now though.

I've been checking for 12.1 rather 14.2 amps on the serial sticker, which is visible without opening the box, and every one I've looked at has been an older 14.2 model so far (eight shops over a week say). Manufacturing dates are around Aug/Sept, yet I'm told by most places they receive new consoles 'all the time'. MS clearing older stock?

Should have grabbed a RE5 model I guess, didn't realise jaspers were not all over the place yet.

Gamestation were really cagey about all this, wouldn't check, and wouldn't even really admit there were different types of 360 in existence. Must be scared about putting people off I suppose, but what is the point of that with me stood there knowing that the Jasper exists, and happy to buy one, as long as they checked that they had a newer machine.

Go with amazon. I got one from there and it was a Jasper, it's probably your best bet. If it's not a Jasper, return it

Was it a 60gb model? How long ago did you get it?

I've been thinking I might just chance it with them, seeing as my mate got hold of a 60gb japser from amazon a months ago now too.

Groovy, reckon if I don't spot one in the next week or so I'll give it a shot.

Yes... from their distributors. Who knows how old the machines they have in storage are or what stock levels they still have clearing through. The Elite I bought in January was manufactured in October and hence a Falcon. The sales assistant in GAME was actually quite helpful, he knew about the revised chip set and went to look through their stock to see if any of them in the back were Jaspers (to which they were not as I later found out only the Arcades were using them at that point).

As for the models with the built-in storage, it's annoying that even with a HDD in place, they still ask you where you want to save every single time...
