    Region 2 DVDs on a PAL PS2...

Any way to stop them playing in either Green or Black And White?

    Cheers.

The green screen is to stop you watching the DVD in RGB. If you get a Blaze Ultimate Scart cable it has a switch which enables you to stop this from happening.

The black and white screen usually happens when you try and watch a US DVD on a TV that doesn't support NTSC.

Don't bother with the Blaze Ultimate Scart cable as the switch only changes the lead from RGB to Composite (rubbish pic when compared to RGB).

Get a DVD Region X, this will let you play any region of DVD (even the RCE incoded) discs/movies, and will play them in lovely RGB.

Is there much difference in price? (It's not for me y'see, I'm asking for a friend and it'd be good to give them an indication of how much it'll cost them)

Alternitively, you could get a DVD RegionX CD.
They also get rid of the greenscreen effect while allowing a full, lovely SCART signal, and yes - it can be used just to play R2 disks as well as imports.

Though I guess it can be a bit of a pain in the rear to have to do a disk-swap each time you want to watch a DVD

(EDIT: Damn, beaten to it - guess I took way too long making that post. Mabye I should stop posting from work )

The DVDRX keeps the region you have chosen and the RGB fix until you completely turn the PS2 off.
This means you can change dvds (same region) and not have to use the DVDRX everytime you change discs.

or just use s-video. Given the PS2's DVD quality, I bet you can't tell the difference.

the newer ps2s with updated dvd drivers (from the last 16 months or so)
give a VERY good picture through scart.
I run mine through scart into a 68cm tv with 16:9 mode and the picture rivals and in a lot of cases beats a lot of stand alone players, especially down here in australia where its very hard to find a scart dvd under AUD$700.

S video is a noticeably worse picture through the ps2 for dvd playback, and especially games, i dont need to go into the differences between s video and scart rgb do i?
