Slim CRT 28-32" was one ever made!

I'm looking for a CRT to play retro stuff on.

I don't know if this is going to be possible, but it has to be slim.
Were any ever made with smaller backs?

The last 3 CRT's I had were, Phillips 28" Sony 28" and Sony 32" and tbh, the backs were bloody massive.

I have a 50" HD, but honestly want something smaller for retro. Plus I remember how stunning Retro looked on the Sony 28" (it was a top of the range)

I'd take 4:3 or 16:9 and am prepared to pay, If I can get a slim CRT!

(I guess they would have to be so big because of the internals?)

    Thank you.

Samsung made a compact 28" CRT but the alignment was meant to be horrendous.

I have a "slim" samsung 32" CRT in one of the rooms in my place back home, useless for retro machines, image jumps around like a kangaroo on speed.

Yeah the Samsung Slimfit TV's had poor geometry, although some say it requires a lot of adjusting in service mode to get best results.
I think Philips had the CyberTube but they were 4:3 AFAIK and weren't released in the UK (Europe only) AFAIK.

Yeah Samsung made those slimfit HD ready CRTs but the geometry was atrocious

I'm not a big fan of Philips either tbh. Their tubes have a tendency to go soft (poor focus), low emission (poor brightness) and short circuit(s) in the CRT neck are not uncommon either. All three render the set useless or beyond economical repair.

I've seen some mid-90's Bang & Olufsen TV's that seem to be quite thin from the back, although it could just be the way they're styled. They were really good TV's back in the day, and had plenty of inputs on them.

^ I very nearly bought a B&O instead of my Tosh PF2 back in the day. The price difference was negligible, but you got a lot more for your money with the Tosh.

For retro stuff I'd be looking for a non-widescreen non-HD 20" TV of any sort. Remember a 28" 16:9 WS only has roughly the same screen height as a 20" 4:3.

I usually use an old Grundig 20" 4:3 CRT and more recent Philips 20" 4:3 CRT for PSOne and DC gaming and I find the PQ quality and screen size ideal for my living space.

However I've also used a 20" 4:3 Sony non-HD LCD at a relative's house and although the contrast and colour is not in the same class as my CRTs via RGB SCART I was very happy with how it displayed my PSOne games.

As CRTs are so rare now if ever my existing TVs gave up the ghost a non-HD quality brand LCD of that size/format would definitely be what I'd be looking for.

                  Good advice.
You can probably pick up an old 21" Trinitron etc. for peanuts if you flick through the ads in the local paper. Pretty much essential if you play shooting games imo as you need something easy to tate.

Thank you. I did want to tate also, why I wanted it slim. That wasn't the only reason, its going on top of a cupboard, and the space is minimal.

I'll keep my eyes open. I was looking at the Beovision sets from the link yesterday, they look really stylish, and they're on ebay too.

At-least I do have options. Thanks again

If you can find a decent 21" trinitron based PC monitor then snap it up.
The geometry, connections and supported resolutions are usually pretty much the best available.

My dad has a high def, slim Samsung CRT. The geometry is shamefully bad.

Yeah they're cool aren't they? Cost an arm and a leg back when they were new but they go anywhere between ?40 and ?150 max depending on the model. Most have 2 SCART's, S-Video and even NTSC 3.58MHz support for those import consoles.
