360 Replacement/Arcade redownloads

Hello

I was just curious (as 360' seem to fail at some point) and wanted to clartify a few things

If/when my 360 machine eventually wears out can I simply remove the harddrive from the side and plug it into a new machine?

I ask because I read somewhere that the games are tied to ther console? and that if you got a new 360 you could attach the harddrive but could only play the games whilst online?

is there any way around that^ if that is the case?

You can avoid having to connect to Live by going onto xbox.com and transferring the game 'licenses' over to the new 360. Think it is in account maintenance somewhere.

You can only do a license transfer once every 12 months though.
