    Windows xp service pack

    Hello

I'm going to have to do a clean install of windows xp soon but this time I wanted to install the newest version of my firewall (zonealarm) from the start.

However the latest version wont i9nstall to a basic windows xp installation needing the service pack upgrade first.

I could install the old ver then download sp3 then unistall the old one.. However zonealamr is know to sometimes caus eproblems by nopt uninstalling fully so I'd much rather JUST install the latest version straight off.

So to get to the point is there a way for me to download the service packs so I can install them after a new installation Without needing net access (like copy them to a flash drive etc)

Or are they indeed still on my hardrive somewhere as cab files? (as when you try to redownload it it says download complete immidately)

thanks to anyone who can let me know

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (XP SP3) fixes a range of bugs and adds new features to Windows XP. The file is a large download and can be applied to any version of Windows XP Home, Professional, TabletPC or Media Center (32 bit only). However, you must have installed either Windows SP1 or SP2 before […]

All service packs are available as stand-alone downloads does this help?

If you download nlite, this will take you through a really easy to follow process that will let you create a windows installation disc with all the service packs built in. All you need is your xp disc a blank cd and a cd burner , plus any service packs and hotfixes

I was gonna recommend nlite, too. There's a guide here:

Next time you wipe your PC's hard drive clean and reinstall Windows with that old installation disc, you don't want to connect your fresh, unpatched

Takes a fair bit of time if you go through all the options, but it's worth it if you're likely to do this again.

I also found this in my history, don't know if it's any good to you:

Windows only: Free utility Windows Updates Downloader is a seriously convenient tool for anyone starting over with a fresh Windows re-installation (su

            Thanks and Thanks =>

All suggestions gratefully recieved, I keep letting people us emy pc and 7 times now I've had to do this after they did 'something' that messed it all up, wish I knew what.

Though this was the last straw (I'm keeping the PC a me only zone from now on) I'll still look into this nlite in case of any future mishaps that may occur (heck maybe one time it'll be my fault =>)

            Thanks again

nlite is very nice - using it at work at the moment and have used it in the past for server deployments. It's easy peasy to use, and very good for trimming all the sh!te out of a windows build.

Perhaps use an image creation software tool to create an image, then if/when it cocks up again, just re-image it would save time.

*I keep saying this but never make an image*
