Playing an old Xbox vertically

Simple question - is it ok heat wise to play with my old Xbox stood vertically, rather than sitting flat? I know I'm blocking one of the vents but not sure if these are prone to any sort of heating issues.

The actual exhaust vent is at the back, so you should be fine.

Is the drive tray up for that though? Will the disc spinning vertically cause an issue (damage the disc, perhaps)?

I had my xbox on its side for a few years with a problem. I stuck some small rubber pads to the side that would be on the bottom just to keep the vent free.
As for drives, the samsung is well known as being the best for compatability media wise but it also has 'lips' to keep the disk in place when it is vertical.
The orientation of a CD/DVD drive is not important once the disk is loaded
