    Second hand 360 HDD?

I've been after a 120GB HDD for the XBOX360 for ages now, but simply put, I'm not willing to pay £80-100 (nearly the price of the console for f*ck sake) to get one.

So, I saw a 120GB in CEX for £45, and I'm wondering if there's any good reason I should avoid it? I mean, obviously I can't know anything about it until I pop it in the console, but in all seriousness, they check all goods sold to them (when I sold them my Rock Band BiaB they checked it all, I had to come back later and find out if they'd take it) so what could be wrong with it?

    Any advice would great cheers.

They don't check goods such as HDD's and control pads from my experience. They only check out things like Rock Band to make sure all contents are present, not that it's working.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Do CEX not include a 12 month warranty on electricals or does it exclude things like HDDs?

A bit more expensive but someone on AVF is selling a new one for £60: http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-...ard-drive.html

I bought a 120gb HDD from CEX and haven't had any technical issues with it at all. Looked a bit scuffed but I think that's more to do with the scummy labels they put on them than anything else.

Apparently they do indeed have 12 month warranty with purchases. Seems good enough for me! Don't mind if it looks a bit scruffy.

Guess I need to find a transfer kit now though too!

IMO get a WD one off Smouty and put it in your casing.

Smouty has Western Digital unofficial ones that you can put in the official casing's, brand new i believe.

Doesn't that risk a ban? Also, is that gonna be cheaper than the £48 CEX are charging for their 120GBs?

No evidence of any bannings, plus it's brand new. I myself wouldn't buy a cex one, but then i associate everything in there with grime and being mistreated. My local one is in the West End though, yours may be nicer.

Or try AV forums, they are on there pretty regularly.

Thing is, if I use my casing, I'd have a 20GB HDD wasted, I wanted to put that in my other 360!

True, you could buy casing, but they are about ?15. i would try AV first for sure.

My 120gb hdd is from cex and it's had no problems at all (had it since the elite launch).

Ask to see them all (or a bunch if there are like 20-30 in stock or something) and pick whichever one looks well taken care of, or maybe check if there's dust in the grooves to show the age of the drive. Although to be honest, unless there's obvious physical damage you won't be able to learn a great deal but if it looks really mint it's probably new and so less likely to have developed a problem.

I work at cex's repairs department and we've had very few hard drives come through with actual drive problems (mostly physical damage where a customer/staff member has dropped it). The thing with the 360 hdd is there's not really any easy way to test all parts of it like you can with a pc hdd without opening it up (the 360 format option is just a quickie). You might only find problems with it when you install a few games but I find they're pretty rugged as they're laptop hard drives so designed to be moved around a lot more than the console itself would be.
