    Dodgy NDS Lites

I've just got back from hols in HK and went along to my usual gaming emporiums (188 Wan Chai Computer Centre and Golden in SSP) to get a new NDS for my daughter.

One asked me if I wanted a "much cheaper" version or an original. Now, I know that there are knock-offs, but what exactly are they? Is it just a refurbished one with a new case or are they just fake but work?

BTW: I got an original Korean sourced one in the end. Lady in 188 was keen to show me the serial numbers matched etc.

Sure they didn't mean DSi and DS (which is much cheaper)?

The knock offs won't play DS games. They'll either play crude Game and Watch style things or they'll be media players (despite questionable build quality, HK media players can be good cheap options for watching vids on the move)

      No, definitely NDS.

DSi's have hardly sold in HK and most peeps (all?) use R4s. NDS Lites still cost about £80 new over there (with R4) but the knock offs were about £50.

One bloke even asked me what colour shell I wanted!

They're new ones. They are 'grey' imports, and the warranty will probably not mean much, therefore they cost cheaper than official Hong Kong DS Lites.

They'll still work fine and everything, but they'll probably change your DS charger for you as well so it won't blow up when you use the out of country one.
