    Backlight Buzz?

    Hi

Well I took the plunge and bought a new LCD TV after my old one got damaged while moving house. Picked up a series 5 Samsung and its lovely. I've just noticed though that if the backlight is set to anything other than full the set lets off a buzzing noise. I know there are guys on here who know a thing or two about AV equipment, so I'm just wondering if this is the norm with adjustable backlights as my TV before didn't offer this?

    Cheers!

I have a series 5 Samsung as well, no buzzing sound at all. Sounds like it could be a resistor. If it was a bad earth it would do it all the time, are there any other items on the same socket, if so try it on a lone socket. Failing that give Samsung a call.

I had this on my panasonic and it was an utter nightmare, ended up taking it back to the shop to be looked at several times, and only a letter to trading standards sorted it as they replaced the panel eventually and it hasn't done it since. However every time they tried to actually fix it they just made it worse

Gah that doesn't sound good, I literally just bought the telly at the weekend.

Huxely what backlight setting are you on and is there definitely no noise when you get very close to the TV? It isn't a loud buzz or anything but it is noticeable.

A lot of displays buzz. My Pioneer 5090 sounds like a fly zapper on an all white screen. Some people won't hear it because of the room conditions though.

Mines set to 6 for my htpc and 7 for gaming. No sound at all.
Is yours stood on any sort of stand / table that could be making the sound louder? Mines wall mounted.

Its on a stand but I don't think that's making it any worse. I've checked my folks Sony lcd that has an adjustable backlight and it does the same thing when turning it down. So it could be just normal but I'm sure I would have noticed it doing this when I was setting it up. I'll maybe try taking it back at the weekend.

              Cheers for you help guys.

EDIT: Well my girlfriend says she can't hear it at all! So I'm obviously just really sensitive to what ever pitch the buzz is at, as I can hear it from across the room. Haha it must be just normal at least I know my hearing is still good.

I have a 40" Samsung Series 6, never heard a single noise on any setting ever, ever. Demand a replacement son, its not fit for purpose?
