    Virgin Media cable modem

    Hello

This IS console related before anyone wonders.

Basically I just switch to virgin media but still have the old bt line till the 16th

As such I figured id use the b tline for my pc and just plug my xbox into the new cable modems ethernet port for the time being so it wouldnt get affected by/affect the pc

however the xbox couldnt connect to live when it was connected am I right in guessing that the cable modem wont allow a direct connecting from xbox-cable modem - socket on wall?

I actually have a wireless router too but was planning to set that up when the bt line goes down.

    Anyone know the score?

^There's no reason why the XBox shouldn't just connect, there's no restriction on this. They also stopped requiring registration of MAC addresses years ago, so this also shouldn't be a problem.

Does the PC connect fine using Virgin?

When i rigged it up (to test it out) it did the whole 'now toa ctivate your modem etc' when i opened firefox

I went through all the clicking and stuff and it was eventually set though the first time i tried to dl a file it did cut out after a few seconds then the 2nd time worked fine.

it was only just installed today though, but the xbox should just work fine plugged into the cable modem then?

We are with Virgin Media cable broadband but still have an old NTL Ambit modem and when I first joined Live it was direct from the Ambit modem to my original Xbox and it worked fine.

I have a virgin cable modem & i have a ethernet cable coming from that to my pc. Now to play my 360 i have to unplug it from my pc & into the 360 however to get the connection to work i have to power off the modem & then back on otherwise it won't connect.

I have to do that too, it's frustrating but it works. Need to set up my router again.

Yeah, it should work direct to the modem- I used to do it that way first with NTL, then with Virgin. As importotaku says though, you have to power cycle the modem first before connecting a different device otherwise it ain't going to work.
