PS3 Error. Anyone shed any light?

I gave my brother my PS3 for his birthday and last week, he said, the screen went haywire (its HDMI into HD) his controller went mental.
And lost picture.

He then put his Composite lead and he got a picture, although he cant do anything as his controller is shot.

He is planning to get a new controller at the weekend..

Is there anything he can do? have you heard of this problem?

(Still can't get picture from HDMI - HDMI tested elsewhere and works)

Have you tried plugging the pad in via USB?

Heyas Kern..I just double checked with him and he says he has tried it plugged via USB and as a wireless and still nothing..
