Playstation Xbox RGB Cables : Official or IXOS ?

    Which RGB cables are better???

For Playstation, there exist that Grey 3m long Official Sony RGB cable, and for Xbox that Black Official RGB cable with that little box.

That Grey RGB cable is only official RGB cable which was made by Sony for Playstation, or are there official ones for Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 too???

Because I have one for Playstation 1/2 and it is unofficial one with that AV out thing in middle, and there is noise in Picture and Sound.

    Playstation

    VS

    Xbox

    VS

There is written wit those IXOS RGB Cables:

Twin shielded to provide optimum protection against RFI and EMI
High Grade PC-OFC (Pure Crystal Oxygen-Free Copper) conductors significantly improve picture and audio detail
Dual molded strain relief protects the cable at the point of greatest stress even with repeated disconnecting and reconnecting to the hardware
High-density cable jacket and braiding reduces external vibrations for maximum signal strength
24k gold plated connectors provides long life and maximum signal transfer

    THANKS

Both the standard cables are perfectly good. Some of the really cheap PS compatible cables have terrible colour bleed and look fuzzy. The Ixos stuff will probably be very good but expensive.
I suppose it depends on how good a TV you have if it is worth forking out for better cables.

No idea about the PS2 cables, but the Xbox Ixos RGB Scart cables can be found quite cheaply now with a bit of searching - the only disadvantage compared to the official Microsoft RGB Scart cable is that the Ixos cable has no optical port for connecting to an amp. If this isnt a concern I would probably just get the Xbox Ixos cable, however I personally wanted to connect my Xbox to an amp so I had to get the official one with its large breakout 'block'

So it seems I will take the official ones. And I hope there wont be any noise in Audio or Video like that Playstation cable which I have.

        THANKS

I too have had sound and vision problems with (obviously) unofficial cables which have built in AV blocks (or game shop provided cabled AV block inserts) particularly the Dreamcast but also PS1/2. I've found that simply plugging in a L/R Phono cable to my amp from such an AV block can cause herringbone picture interference even when the amp is powered off!

But I've also bought some that have worked perfectly with absolutely no cross-talk/interference too. It has to be down to build quality but you just won't know until you've spent your money.

Now when I want audio out to an amp and can't use optical, my preferred choice, and have to use L/R Phono stereo connections (DC and PSOne) what I have found far more satisfactory is to use a simple purpose designed SCART AV breakout adapter.

You'll find them at Amazon, Maplins or any AV cable shop. Obviously they vary in quality too but the ones I've used seem far less prone to the sorts of problems described when used even with comparatively cheap console RGB SCART cables.

BTW some SCART sound/vision interference problems may be cured just by blanking SCART pin 19 (TV comp. video out).

The official Sony PS2 RGB SCART cable (which also works on the PS1 and PS3) is quite possibly the highest quality, thickest official cable I have ever owned. It is of higher quality than the official Component cable.

I'm guessing this ended auction shows an official PS2 RGB Scart cable?:-

(Have not seen one personally, so can't say for sure that its an official one)

<EDIT> Out of curiousity, is there an official PS3 RGB Scart cable? and if not, why not?

It looks like that grey one for Playstation 1, but it is black. So it seems they are the same quality, because the look very similar.

And what are that things near both ends and what they are good for???

That grey one pictured by the OP has just gone for ?13.26 on eBay. Wasn't interested myself but I was searching eBay for other shorter ones and happened across it.

I only actually found one other guy selling a so-called "Official PS1/PS2 Sony SCART cable". Went to the listing and the picture shows its really a bog standard composite cable without even a SCART adapter. Probably not even Sony yet it had seven bids. Some fool is likely to be disappointed when he receives it next week.

Thought it might be - were you using a sniping programme or was it just good timing?

I wouldn't have paid that much but it's not an unreasonable price. In my searches yesterday I found one place selling the IXOS PS/PS2/PS3 RGB SCART cable at almost ?100! So it's a bargain compared to that. I'll be interested to hear if it provides any PQ improvement.

I tested out all seven of my variously priced collection of PS/PS2 RGB SCARTs against each other, against my Official Sony PS3 Component cable and finally against a cheap independent brand Component cable on a PS2 yesterday too. As my previous less formal comparison had suggested as regards PQ I really couldn't see any significant differences between any of them.

It was only when I connected those with an AV block or added an aforementioned game shop AV block cable extension piece to an amp that problems appeared. What was really strange was that in two cases ones with built in AV blocks both caused herringbone picture interference and a very slight background buzz when connected to the amp (by good quality supposedly shielded phono cables BTW). But those same cables when used with a SCART AV breakout adapter connected to the amp worked perfectly with no noticeable picture/sound interference.

                        Go figure, as they say.

It was good timing. I thought I wont get it, but it ended on that good price. I put there 30 pounds bid in last 20 seconds and that was it.

I have too interferences in sound, there is that buzzing, and the brighter the picture is the louder the buzzing is. And when I play games and there is something black or dark green, there is noise in it. So I hope this official one will eliminate that buzzing sound and noise in picture.

I get that particularly on my PSOne with things like in-game menus and any level with snow. During the game most of the time you don't hear it and it is so low as to be ignorable but it is there and you do wish it wasn't.

If that cable solves or improves the problem for you I might consider upgrading my Playstation cables too.
