PSP PSN deactivation

I'm pretty sure the answer is "you can't", but does anybody know if it's possible to deactivate a PSP that you no longer have? You're only allowed up to 5 PSPs activated on a given account, and one of mine broke and was replaced by the retailer, so I'd like to deactivate it to get that activation back. Every method I've tried requires you to plug the PSP in to either PS3 or PC, though, which I obviously can't do.

If you call Sony customer services and stick with it a bit, they may be able to give you one back
